|Jon Molvig (1923 – 1970) studied in Sydney and later travelled through Europe, returning to Newcastle in 1953. His early life was spent working in steel factories which would later inform the industrial nature of his work. He moved to Brisbane in 1954 where he taught and exhibited, and became recognized as one of the country’s leading figurative expressionists. He won the Archibald Prize in 1966. His work is represented by the National Gallery of Australia and most state galleries. |
